Nick Vier

Coach Vier brings over 15 years of coaching experience and a lifelong connection to the game. A standout at Bergen Catholic, he played four years of varsity basketball before earning a scholarship to the University of Vermont. Currently the head coach at Ramapo High School, Coach Vier has led the program to four State Championships in just four years. His extensive playing and coaching background allows him to develop athletes with a strong foundation, competitive edge, and love for the game.

Ben Wichard

Coach Ben is one of the longest-tenured coaches at Open Gyms, now in his fifth year with the program. He is currently the Freshman Coach on the Mahwah High School staff and also leads the 8th Grade Boys Travel Team in Mahwah. Known for his team-oriented approach, Coach Ben specializes in teaching fundamentals and keeping the game simple, helping athletes build a strong foundation for long-term success.

Jack Schlamp

Coach Jack was a 4 year player at Ramsey High School. Jack has won 2 state championships as a player and 2 as an assistant coach at Ramsey High School. Coach Jack just moved on to be the Freshman coach at Waldwick Highschool. Jack has been part of the Garden State Grind Coaching Staff for a number of seasons

Javier Gonzalez

Coach Javi brings years of experience as both a college coach and skill development trainer. His approach focuses on three key areas: fundamentals, decision-making, and work ethic. By developing players’ skills, character, and basketball IQ, Coach Javi prepares athletes not only for success on the court but also for discipline and integrity in life.

Jordan Hubbard

Basketball has been a central part of Coach Jordan’s life from the very beginning, teaching lessons of discipline, teamwork, and character that shaped who he is today. With five years of experience coaching at both the middle school and high school levels, he is passionate about sharing those same lessons with the next generation. Dedicated to helping athletes grow on and off the court, Coach Jordan uses basketball as a tool to guide players toward both athletic development and personal success

Caitlin Roche

Coach Caitlin was a standout at Immaculate Heart Academy, where she scored over 1,000 career points, earned All-State and All-County honors, and led her team to a Non-Public A State Championship. She went on to play Division I basketball at Coastal Carolina University, surpassing the 1,000-point milestone there as well. Now a varsity assistant coach at IHA, Caitlin combines her championship playing career and coaching experience to help athletes grow in both skill and confidence. Her training emphasizes shooting, ball handling, passing, and offensive footwork, while also teaching players to think the game at a high level.

Coach Asia is a former college basketball player with a deep love for the game and a passion for teaching. She is committed to sharing her knowledge and experience with young athletes, helping them sharpen their skills and build the confidence to reach their goals.

Coach Aalim played four years of varsity basketball at Kennedy High School before continuing his career at Bergen Community College and Centenary University. With basketball as his passion, he is dedicated to helping athletes become the best versions of themselves, both as players and as individuals

Coach Justina’s basketball journey spans both college and professional play, taking her to new places and experiences around the world. Now, she is focused on giving back by mentoring the next generation of athletes. She loves helping players grow their game while also instilling lessons that carry into life beyond the court.

Norlene Ibahay

Coach Norlene has been passionate about basketball since childhood, using the game as a way to build confidence, discipline, and lifelong friendships. A four-year player at Morristown High School, she started two seasons at point guard before continuing her career at the County College of Morris. Drawing from her own experience as a student-athlete, Coach Norlene is committed to encouraging and inspiring young players, both on the court and in life.

Rico Smalls

Coach Rico was a standout guard at Saint Joseph Regional and Eastern Christian Academy, earning All-Conference and All-County honors. He went on to play at Division II Goldey-Beacom College, where he also completed his M.B.A. In 2021, he founded Hidden Gemz Basketball Training LLC, a program focused on skill development and sports performance for athletes from youth through professional levels. In addition, Coach Rico serves as Assistant Head Coach at Villa Walsh Academy and as a head coach with the Garden State Grind.

Juice Rivera

Coach Justin, known as “Juice,” is a Health and Physical Education teacher in Paterson, NJ, with a strong passion for sports and player development. He played basketball at Bergen Tech before finishing his high school career at Saddle Brook. In addition to teaching, he has coached both basketball and baseball at Waldwick High School over the past two years.
